A Mervin Globe brand

A ferry crossing the Bosphorus at dusk, with the old city on the skyline

Türkiye, made
entirely yours.

Private journeys designed around you, one at a time, by people who live here. Since 2014.

The Bosphorus, first evening

Eleven nights, designed around one family.

Two parents and three children, travelling in May. Before we chose a single hotel, we wrote down what they told us, and what they didn’t.

What we heard

What we did

They asked for

Istanbul, without the queues.

A guide on the second morning only. Hagia Sophia at opening; the palace by the Harem door, before the groups.

Cappadocia, but not three early mornings in a row.

We kept one dawn, because the light is the reason to come. The other mornings begin when they wake.

A week by the water where nothing starts before ten.

Four nights above an east-facing bay. The boat waits until breakfast is over.

They didn’t have to say

The children fly in that morning.

So the first afternoon is left empty, and dinner comes to them, on the water.

The youngest gets seasick.

So we chose the calmer eastern bays, a steadier boat and a short crossing.

— E.K., travel designer

Then we wrote it down.

Every journey leaves here as a dossier: the days, the reasons, and the people who will be with you. This is theirs.

  2. The brief, as we heard it.

Two parents, three children: fourteen, eleven and seven. Twelve days in May. Their first time in Türkiye. They want the famous places without the famous queues, and they want the children to remember it as their own trip, not their parents’.

One of them is a little afraid of boats. One of them would happily never see another ruin.

Flight times first. They decide day one.

    Three worlds, eleven nights.

    1. Istanbul, four nights
    2. Cappadocia, three nights
    3. Bodrum, four nights
    Between them
Two short flights, both after breakfast.
    With you
One travel designer from the first call to the flight home. A private car and driver in each place. Guides chosen for the children as much as for the history.
    Staying
Three houses, each chosen for a reason written on its page.

  3. The Maiden's Tower on its islet in the Bosphorus, Galata and the European shore behind, late in the afternoon

The Bosphorus, first evening. Dinner comes to them, on the water.

    Istanbul

    Nights one to four

    1. Day 1

Met at arrivals by name; the car is at the kerb. The afternoon is empty on purpose. Dinner at eight, on the water.

They land that morning: nothing booked.

    2. Day 2

The old city with a private guide: Hagia Sophia at opening, the cistern, then lunch where the guide eats.

    3. Day 3

Free until noon. The hammam at four, for the family alone. The children choose dinner.

    4. Day 4

Topkapı by the Harem door, before the groups. The Spice Market for the children’s list. A last evening on a roof in Galata.

Staying A house on the Bosphorus. Chosen because the children can walk to the water and the parents can see it from bed.

Marlowe · Eleven nights in Türkiye page 4 of 10
  4. Cappadocia

    Nights five to seven

    1. Day 5

The 10:40 flight, not the 06:15. A house carved into the rock in Uçhisar; sunset from its terrace.

    2. Day 6

The one early morning: a ridge above the valley at first light, breakfast back at the house, a valley walk at ten.

One dawn, not three. The light is the reason.

    3. Day 7

Avanos, and a potter’s wheel for small hands. A long lunch in a village garden. Nothing after four.

Staying Six rooms, a fireplace, and a breakfast that waits for you.

Marlowe · Eleven nights in Türkiye page 5 of 10

Day 6, before anyone else was up.

  5. A motor yacht lying off Bodrum at the end of the day, the masts of the marina behind it

Off the eastern bays at the end of a day. The boat waits until breakfast is over.

Marlowe · Eleven nights in Türkiye page 7 of 10

    Bodrum

    Nights eight to eleven

    1. Day 8

Fly south. Four nights above a quiet bay; the first swim before unpacking.

    2. Day 9

A boat for the day, with a captain who knows which coves are empty in May. Lunch on board.

Calmer bays, a short crossing: the youngest.

    3. Day 10

Ephesus with a guide who lets the ruins speak. The Terrace Houses for her, an early exit for him, lunch by the sea for both.

She loves ruins. He doesn’t. Lunch by the sea.

    4. Day 11

Nothing booked. A table held in the old town at eight, in case.

    5. Day 12

Home. The car is ordered around the flight, not the other way round.

  6. What changed after our call.

    Second draft · 14 March

    • The hammam the second day the third The old city is enough for one day.
    • The boat a gulet a motor yacht Shorter crossings, steadier for the youngest.
    • The first day the old city nothing until dinner We read the flight times.

Design my journey

Someone has already thought about it.

A magnifying glass on an old map of Constantinople, beside wire-rimmed glasses and a tinted postcard
Before a journey is drawn, it is read about.
Pace
No two early mornings in a row unless you ask for them. Days are shaped around when you are at your best, not around opening hours.
Privacy
Your own car and driver from the airport door to the airport door. No shared transfers, no meeting points, no waiting for a group.
Access
A workshop opened on its closed day. The hammam before it opens. A table that is held, not booked.
Thought
She loves archaeology; he doesn’t. So Ephesus ends with lunch by the sea, and nobody is asked to pretend.
One person
The designer who writes your journey is the person you message while you are on it.
Judgment
We live here. We will tell you which famous place is tired this year, and where to go instead.

Three worlds, one country.

Most journeys here move between three worlds. How long you stay in each is the first thing we decide together.

Istanbul

A private motor yacht under way on the Bosphorus, below the bridge and the wooded shore

Water on three sides, a thousand years of appetite, and the right rooftop at the right hour.

By boat when the roads are full. By the side door when the front one has a queue.

Journeys in Istanbul

A table laid for two on a terrace above the Bosphorus at night, the bridge lit behind
A woman in a blue and white dress crossing a terrace in Cappadocia at first light

Cappadocia

Rock, silence and very old light. Best taken slowly, and never at the same hour as everyone else.

One dawn, chosen for the light. Then long breakfasts, a potter’s wheel in Avanos, and a valley walked after the others have left.

Journeys in Cappadocia

Gulets at anchor in the bay, seen between two stone walls of Bodrum Castle

The Aegean

Boats, coves, long lunches. The part of the journey where the schedule disappears.

A week where nothing starts before ten, and the captain already knows which bay is empty.

Journeys in Bodrum

The Ölüdeniz lagoon from above: turquoise water, a sand spit and the wake of one boat

Elsewhere in Türkiye: Antalya and the Black Sea.

All destinations

The details nobody asks for.

Nobody asks for these. We do them anyway.

Before you reach the door, you know who is waiting, and where.

Sample names; the driver is invented.

  • Turkish coffee served in a small cup, held in one hand, with a glass of water and a piece of lokum

    Coffee, served properly.

Even the first cup has been thought about.

  • A copper ewer on a tray table on a terrace in Cappadocia, kilims underfoot, in early light

    A tray on the terrace.

Tea arrives before you ask, and nobody hurries you.

  • Kaş harbour in early summer, seen through the branch of a loquat tree heavy with fruit

    The table that is held.

Not booked: held. Eight o’clock, by the water, in case you feel like it.

  • Marlowe

    The tag on your bags.

So each hotel knows your bags before it knows you.

One designer, from the first call to the flight home.

Your designer writes your journey, changes it when you change your mind, and answers when you message from a jetty at nine at night to ask where to eat.

Behind them: drivers who know which road is quiet at five, and guides who were born in the valleys they walk you through.
